it’s snowing

oneskein1.jpg

the rain just turned to snow in the cove! oh wait, now it’s rain again. anyhoo…it’s good thing i just finished up my latest knitting project last night so i can stay warm. well, almost finished it. 99%, just need to finish the fringe. this is a great free pattern from red corset designs which only takes one ball of blue sky suri merino (which is scrumptious!)

saipua is so pretty

just received a box full of handmade olive oil soaps from brooklyn–i’m in luv. they’re beautifully crafted, beautifully packaged and the perfect little gift for yourself. (you can buy them for someone else too of course, but we think you need one too.) $12/bar. online soon!

the mayor

mayor.jpg

do you know jan? actually pronounced JAN with a hard “j” rather than YAN with a “y”. i refer to him as the unofficial mayor of deep cove. he’s lived here for more than 25 years and is always happy to lend a hand. jan is part of what makes deep cove so special.

he comes to give auggie (one of my dog babies) a 4:00 massage every time auggie’s at work…he takes out our garbage and recycling from time to time…he always helps alison from mystic clothing next door bring in the clothing racks at night. he sweeps outside. he watches wheel of fortune with his friend peggy (who lives in the near by senior housing complex) every day and has been doing so for about 20 years. speaking of which, i caught a glimpse of “wheel” the other day and wondered…have vanna & pat aged in the last 20 years? i think not. anyhoo…thanks for all you do jan!

i love this little shop and have been meaning to order some of their lovely cards for Room6 forever (and just never seem to get around to it!). if you don’t live close by, you can visit them online here.  the shop is filled with stationery & screenprinted goodies many of which are made on site by owners rebecca & brandy. there are also loads of vintage typewriters & if you know me, you know i have a weakness for vintage typewriters. sadly (or maybe it’s a good thing…for me) the typewriters aren’t for sale.

neat

vancouver plus (an online guide for “what’s new, what’s on, what’s hot in the city of vancouver”) did a neat little write-up about Room6. check it out here.

cherry blossom spring ‘09!

cherrysprin09.jpg

the lovely stacy from cherry blossom was here last week and dropped off the first fresh batch of spring cherry blossom clothing. my favorite piece from this season’s collection is hands down the kismet skirt. stacy was wearing it with her new frye boots and she looked fabulous! all of their comfy knit pieces are made with eco friendly (and oh-so-soft) bamboo fabric this year. lots of pretty new graphics from deanna too. the hand-cut appliques are incredible…and i’m sure LOTS of work. stay tuned as i work to get this pretty collection online!

live what you love

livewhatyoulove1.jpg

i stumbled across these lovely woodblock prints awhile back and had to have one! they’re handmade by Brooklyn based designer Hijiri (her blog is: heartfish.com & her etsy shop is here).

anyhoo, i’ve been inspired by this print staring at me every morning (patiently waiting to be framed along with my growing collection of prints).

LIVE WHAT YOU LOVE.

i’ve had a dream (or maybe more of a fantasy) of having a flower shop forever…but i’ve realized that having flowers in my little shop will be just fine…so starting this week there will be a small collection of flowers for sale at Room6! just in time for valentine’s…

and hey, live what YOU love too. (even if it’s overwhelming & kinda scary.)

cocoa nymph is coming!

val_truff_blog.jpg

Cocoa Nymph chocolates are coming to the Cove on Monday just in time for valentine’s. well, unless i eat them all first that is. look how gorgeous these truffles are (handmade right here in Vancouver)! here’a a little blurb from rachel (the cocoa nymph) from her blog:

“I love my collection for Valentine’s day. The handpainted hearts atop the truffles make the pieces look slightly like sushi rolls – a fact that my Vancouver customers LOVE. I love the decadence of Desire, the cinnamon mousse truffle. I relish making and eating Luscious, the sassy tartness of cherry gelee melding with the mellowness of kirsch liqueur. All year my customers have waited for the return of Blush, with it’s heady aroma of rosewater and the delicate pink heart on top. And finally, nothing says romance like Mischief – a champagne and milk chocolate bonbon that to me is the next best thing to an actual glass of bubbly.”

Available in a 4 pack for $10 from Monday Feb 9th through saturday Feb 14 or while they last.

low tide pyrrha photoshoot

pyrrha_photoshoot.jpg

today i snuck down to the cove to take some pictures of the new pyrrha jewelry collection (you may have encountered the “back in a jiffy” sign i put up from time to time to run down the water to sneak in some shots.) the mossy covered rocks which are exposed at low tide felt like the perfect setting for photographing these gorgeous pendants.

i’m in luuuuv with the pyrrha seals–with any luck, i’ll have them up on the website tomorrow! check the jewelry section for updates.

bananas & snowflakes

coffeehappy.jpg

today is february 1st and it’s snowing! well, sort of…it’s kind of that in between snow and rain sort of thing but i’m a huge snow lover so i’m calling it snow. katy is holding down the fort at the shop today which means i have the day to hang out with my boys (for rich it’s super bowl sunday & for me, it’s super knitting sunday!)

oh yeah, about the bananas:  i’ve been meaning to make banana bread forEVER because i *really* LUV banana bread (recipe from “the joy of cooking” first published in 1931). you guys have been telling me i should blog more (and i was totally inspired by my friend & photographer extraordinaire sherri  who started blogging in january) so here are some random thoughts for today:

i love my bright orange kitchenaide mixer which was a wedding gift from my mom. i love the little french press rich bought me for christmas so when i wake up before him (which is pretty much always) i can make my own little coffee. i love the smell of banana bread filling our little house with happiness. i love watching the birds (& chippy) outside enjoying the orange egg birdfeeder. i’m sitting on the couch with warm toes sandwiched in between mike & auggie (rich is still sleeping) and i’m thinking…i’m a lucky girl.
