giant carrot!

carrotblog.jpg

here is a not so great picture of the 5+ feet of carrot in our easter window display! it was pretty fun carrying it down to the cove. lots of double takes…”is that girl carrying a giant carrot?!”

blim community market

blim_blog.jpg

have i ever told you how scared i am of clowns? never liked ‘em. my grandma has a scary clown that sits in a chair in her basement (um, poltergeist anyone?) and she loves the fact that all of the grandkids are traumatized by him. anyway…this weekend blim is having a community market showcasing local design. the clown is on the blim poster. in case you were wondering.

where the wild things are

wwa_cover.jpg

there’s been a lot of talk about this book being made into a movie and today i saw the trailer for the first time and i have to say i’m really excited to see the film in october. the book is a classic and spike jonze has big shoes to fill. but don’t you just *love* the arcade fire soundtrack? you can watch the trailer here since i don’t know how to embed it! i loved these hand-drawn words in the trailer. inside all of us is: hope, fear, adventure. inside all of us is a wild thing.

smoking lily fridays!

smokinglilyfriday.jpg

brand new smoking lily arrives today! we receive smoking lily just about every friday and this week there are 2 new skirts (the one shown in the photo is the Petite Anglaise and it’s only $44), new tea towel colours & prints, tea cozies (such a nice day for tea) and lots more too! i’ll try to have the new wares online soon. now off to hike with the boys who don’t care if it’s raining or not!

studio 2291

studio2291.jpg

i had the pleasure of a facial with donna at studio 2291 in the cove today. ahhhh…so relaxing and the studio is just lovely–filled with light from the big windows that frame the ocean below. many of my local customers go to ania for their hair and everyone just raves about her & the studio (ania is the proprieter and she recently expanded the studio to include spa treatments like massages & facials.)

blog_eminence.jpg

they also sell & use a beautiful (and organic!) line of facial care from hungary called eminence that i’m loving–the natural fragrances are to die for. i wanted to eat the naseberry cream. i’d never heard of naseberries so thanks to google i learned that it is a tropical fruit that is really sweet and apparently quite delicious.

blog_nasberry.jpg

donna is a doll–she’s from london and just relocated to deep cove after 3 years working on luxury cruise ships (oh the stories she could tell i’m sure…) where she met and married her canadian hubby.

make a date with studio 2291 (there’s nothing on their website yet so you’ll just have to take my word for it.) i love discovering gems like this and it’s right in my hood!

twilight

twilight.jpg

i did it. i read twilight. it was great bubble bath reading material and despite being almost 500 pages it went really quickly (and i didn’t have to look up any big words or anything). thanks to my friend stephanie for giving me the paperbook. now i guess i have to see the movie…and i suppose i have way more in common with 16 year olds than i knew…
