can’t decide what auggie & mike should be for halloween.

some ideas…

hugs & kisses (mike would be hugs and somehow wear a giant “X” on his head…auggie would be kisses with a little “O”).

star wars inspired…auggie-wan-kenobi and chew-mik-a…

a few hours in victoria

victoria11.jpg

all summer i’d planned to make a day trip to victoria. for those of you who don’t live here, victoria is located on vancouver island so you have to take a ferry to get there. on thursday, i decided that i was going to go on friday, booked the 9AM ferry and i was off!

well, sort of.

the delica didn’t start so had to take the non-highway friendly sambar (we call it the “sammy”)–i thought leaving an hour early was enough time to get to the ferry by 8:30AM.

i was wrong.

one reservation down. next ferry? 11AM. i plopped myself down in the tswaassen ferry terminal and worked on spring orders for the shop and also picked up a knitting project that i thought was fairly foolproof–but, i managed to mess it up so it’s now sitting in my bag waiting for some kind knitter to help me fix it.

on my list to do in victoria: meet ellen from bonspiel to pick out and pick-up the first order for Room6, head over the to the smoking lily world headquarters to see where the magic happens and pick up some fresh stock, eat lunch at rebar and if time allowed, visit a few shops.

since i missed the 9AM ferry, i also missed my return ferry reservation booked for 4PM. so while i was at smoking lily i booked another reservation for the 7PM ferry. so glad i did, because when i arrived at the terminal just before 6:30, the 7PM sailing was full. even though i only used one of the three reservations i made that day, it seemed totally worth it because if i had to wait for the 9PM ferry i think i would have broken down in a giant ball of tears right then and there.

would i recommend victoria for the day? not so much. 2 days would have been much more civilized. from deep cove it’s an hour plus (depending on traffic) to reach the terminal and about an hour & a half on the ferry, followed by a 30 min drive into victoria. i highly recommend ferry reservations. having one allows you to get to the terminal 30 minutes before departure and eliminates stress. ANYTHING that eliminates stress is worth $17.50 to me!

it was a whirlwind of a day, but it was so nice to hang out with rachael at smoking lily, meet ellen in person and victoria is oh-so-lovely.

so go there, just take your time. :)

my little baby T (she’s my niece) is getting so big. i remember when this popos poncho went down past her knees…

not sure if my brother or sis-in-law took this pic, but it’s so darn cute.

lord stanley

kayaker.jpg

every time i visit stanley park, i think, “wow, this is such a special place. and it’s free”– (well, except for parking if you drive. oh, and the veggie hot dog and cheeseburger rich and i had for lunch today…), but it’s darn near free and it’s amazing.

lovewins.jpg

last valentine’s day, i bought rich this shirt on etsy and i bought myself one too…they say: LOVE WINS. today, we realized we were both wearing our shirts. DORKS.

deadoralive.jpg

hope you had a lovely, lazy sunday. next up: MAD MEN!

it’s official,

lamp1.jpg

i’m overwhelmed.

this week we got slammed with shipments. and that’s a good thing because i’m in LUV with everything that’s come in. but i’m overwhelmed with getting all the goods photographed and online, rearranging the shop in order to accommodate the new goods and the stress of knowing that there’s so much more new stuff coming our way next week.

(sigh)

it was the week of wool! recycled cashmere hats & arm warmers from seattle, edit recycled sweater mitts from alberta, olie scarves from vancouver and granted handknits (also from vancouver.) the colours/patterns/textures are overwhelmingly beautiful. if i had a fireplace in the shop, i might never come home.

anyhoo…what does any stressed out girl do? go shopping for a vintage lamp of course! i found the most beautiful, warm cozy danish teak lamp table in vancouver today.

and so-

i’m going to try not to stress out about all the photos that need to be taken and all the copy that needs to be written. and instead go sit on the couch next to my new lamp.

one of a kind

ooak1.jpg

so much for updating this on tuesday! i brought some lovely cove ladies with me to the OOAK show in vancouver last friday. we didn’t have too much time, but we each managed to find some treasures for ourselves and i found some new collections for the shop too! (oh, and i ate a lot in the gourmet food section…yum!)

it’s always so nice to see the designers we already work with at the shows (i’m so proud of them all!) and to see their latest & greatest.¬† loved the billy would recycled skateboard belt buckles, new wood-burned critters from cabin & cub, filou medallions, new drus clothing and more. all will be coming our way soon, stay tuned!

ooak9.jpg

loved everything at the little red caboose booth. bought some amazing felted acorns that are now living happily in the jewelry display case at the shop.

ooak10.jpg

bought myself a pretty ring from contexture design and will be ordering them for the shop too!

the contexture design mobiles were neat-o.
