snow!

when i left the shop on saturday it was starting to snow.

and it kept snowing all night.

on sunday we woke up to a winter wonderland in deep cove!

the dogs were in heaven and so were we.

we don’t get much snow in vancouver so when we do, it’s a big deal.

tissue poms

these tissue poms are really easy to make and a great way to add a pop of colour.

they’ve been around for quite some time but i’d never actually got around to making them.

so pretty for parties, weddings and window displays.

i found & followed this great tutorial.

the fitting room

most of you know i’ve hated the fitting room here for years.

but it’s just been one of things that never really made it on my “to do” list.

just my “complain about it all the time” list.

i’m so excited the project has begun and is about 75% done!

i still need to wallpaper the outside wall (using leftover orla kiely wallpaper i had from our kitchen), wallpaper and paint the inside walls (i’m thinking of hanging a textured paper and painting it eggshell), find some great hooks and a mirror. maybe a carpet. and sew a new curtain (after i find the right fabric that is).

HUGE thanks to my hubby and good friend who helped (free labor rocks!)

here’s the before…and during…hoping to post the after next week!

BEFORE: i guess i never took a good picture of the bad fitting room (probably because i disliked it so much) but basically, there was bamboo hoop that hung from the ceiling.

DURING: we used a stolmen post and some birch veneer to create a partition.

orla!

handbag in poppy $168

bucket bag in graphite $198

midi sling in sunflower $195

today argie and i unpacked lots of gorgeous new orla bags for spring!

LOVE the new rhododendron print in all three colours (poppy, granite and sunflower).

albert says

today i went to ikea & home depot and i managed to avoid any temper tantrums or meltdowns*.

i wish someone was filming me trying to put a 4 x 8 foot piece of wood into my delica.

‘cuz it was pretty comical.

we’re putting in a new fitting room in the shop AND i bought supplies for new window boxes.

can’t let the lack of knowledge get in the way of a new project!

*did i tell you i cried at ikea a few weeks ago? a low point, to be sure.

the rock

argie told me the funniest story about her experience hiking to “the rock” (a great local hiking trail) and i thought i’d give you guys the scoop on getting to the trail in case you’re planning an outdoor adventure in deep cove.

argie did end up finding “the rock” (aka quarry rock).

she just took an alternate route.

which apparently required some bushwhacking.

rest assured, no bushwhacking is necessary if you stay on the trail.

colour wheel from dahlhaus

how much do i love these bottles?

and this photo?

i’m so proud of heather.

she’s lovely, works incredibly hard and makes such beautiful things.

and she’s local too.

if she’s selling ‘em, i’m in.

heather?

i first spotted these on the cover of poppytalk’s handmade marketplace lookbook and then visited heather’s blog where i found this nice big pic.

paperwork

i thought it if made something colourful it would make doing all this paperwork more fun.

it did.

for about a minute.

but i’m almost done so i can move onto more exciting stuff like looking through all the fall catalogs i’ve been receiving (that’s right, fall orders are due soon…yikes)

happy monday!

big green dreams

i posted a couple weeks ago about needing to redo the rotting window boxes at the shop.

which made me stop and rethink the entire front of the store.

well, okay, not the entire front as let’s be honest, i’m in a strata, have a limited budget and can’t go too crazy….

but still.

i started obsessing over living walls.

this morning i figured i would phone green over grey in vancouver. i suspected from looking at their previous work (amazing!) it was out of my league financially speaking. and i was right, installations start at $10-15K (sigh)…but the guy i spoke with was so very nice and suggested a couple of DIY solutions.

so now i’m rethinking again…rather than this (excuse my down ‘n dirty photoshop mock-up):

current state of affairs

make believe living wall and new window boxes

it might be more like several potted plants or wooly pockets over on the wall and of course, new window boxes.

hmmmmm….

committed to colour

while i was googling stucco repair (which i will inevitably need to do when i attempt my DIY living wall project outside the shop) i stumbled across this picture. (not sure why, i don’t see any stucco in it.)

anyhoo…

this is some sort of commitment to colour.
